Mastering the Pour-Over: A Step-by-Step Guide to Perfect Coffee
The pour-over method is a favorite among coffee purists for its ability to produce a clean, flavorful cup. Here’s how to do it right:
- Start with Fresh Beans: Use freshly roasted, high-quality coffee beans. Grind them to a medium-fine consistency.
- Boil Water: Heat your water to about 200°F (just off the boil).
- Rinse the Filter: Place a filter in your dripper and rinse it with hot water to eliminate any papery taste.
- Measure and Add Coffee: Use about 1 to 2 tablespoons of coffee per 6 ounces of water. Place the coffee in the filter.
- Bloom the Coffee: Pour a small amount of water over the grounds, just enough to saturate them. Let it sit for 30 seconds to allow the coffee to “bloom.”
- Pour in a Spiral Motion: Slowly pour the rest of the water over the coffee in a spiral motion, starting from the center and moving outward.
- Enjoy: Once all the water has dripped through, remove the dripper and enjoy your perfect cup
